Skokie Engine 17 has just returned from Renewed Performance, Inc. (RPI) after undergoing a full body and paint restoration, along with the installation of new LED lighting and some minor repairs to the pump system. The engine is expected to be back in service next week, marking a fresh start for this long-standing unit.
The transformation is quite noticeable. The front grille now features the unit number prominently displayed, replacing the previous plain design. Additionally, the LED lighting package has been added, giving the truck a more modern and visible appearance. The door seals and "Skokie" decals have also been updated, reflecting changes made since the engine was originally delivered.
A rear view shows off the new chevron striping, which adds a dynamic touch to the overall look of the apparatus. This kind of detail not only enhances aesthetics but also improves visibility for other drivers on the road.
Photos taken by Jeff Rudolph and Larry Shapiro capture the before-and-after changes. From the original conventional lighting and simple grille to the current upgraded features, it's clear that RPI did an excellent job in restoring Engine 17 to its best condition.
