From Steve Redick:
I just witnessed an intense fire scene near a large pallet yard that's connected to a furniture warehouse. The situation was chaotic but well-managed by the Chicago Fire Department. There were three main apparatus on-site, including a Snorkel and two aerial ladder trucks—one of them was the iconic Aerial Tower 8. It was fascinating to see how they coordinated their efforts, especially with the complex layout of the area.
The fire was quite massive, spreading quickly due to the materials involved. I managed to capture some photos, which really don’t do justice to the scale of the operation. The firefighters were working tirelessly, setting up lines and managing the blaze with precision. It’s always humbling to see how they handle these emergencies so professionally.
Here are a few images I took during the incident. Unfortunately, I couldn't embed the video here, but you can imagine the intensity of the flames as they engulfed parts of the structure. The Rosenbauer and E-ONE trucks were particularly noticeable, standing tall against the backdrop of smoke and chaos.

As someone who has been following the Chicago FD for years, it’s clear that their training and experience made all the difference in this situation. The teamwork between the different units was remarkable, ensuring that the fire didn’t spread further than necessary. It’s moments like these that remind me why I love capturing these scenes—there’s something incredibly powerful about seeing people come together in the face of adversity.
Let me know if you want more details or specific shots. This is definitely one of those fires that will stick in my mind for a long time. Stay safe out there, everyone.
Best,
Steve
