In recent years, China's equipment industry has made remarkable progress, achieving significant breakthroughs and completing a series of advanced modernization projects. These developments reflect the country's growing technological capabilities and its commitment to innovation in key sectors.
One major advancement is in the marine industry, where China has launched the sixth-generation 3000-meter deep-water semi-submersible drilling platform at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. on April 28th. This marks the first time China has constructed an ultra-large deep-water drilling system. Owned by China National Offshore Oil Corporation, the platform is a critical part of China's deep-sea oil development strategy and is included in national science and technology projects as a key equipment initiative with independent intellectual property. It follows the successful development of the "Exploration No. 3" platform in 1983, showcasing China's long-term investment in deep-sea exploration technology.
Experts note that this project not only fills a gap in China’s large-scale deep-water drilling capabilities but also plays a vital role in enhancing the nation's offshore operational capacity and strengthening its strategic interests.
Another significant achievement is the independent development of million-volt transformers by China Ordnance Equipment Group. The main transformer for China’s first ultra-million generator set was successfully tested, demonstrating China's mastery of cutting-edge thermal power transformer technology. This development supports the rapid growth of super-capacity generator sets, with performance reaching world-class standards. The company is now the sole domestic producer of main transformers for million-generator sets and supplies critical components for major nuclear power plants such as Qinshan and Daya Bay.
In the photovoltaic sector, the Datang Gansu Wuwei grid-connected photovoltaic demonstration power station officially began construction on April 26th in Wuwei City. This project serves as a pioneer for the optoelectronics industry in Gansu, opening new opportunities for power development and playing a key role in promoting desert-based grid-connected photovoltaic projects nationwide. Supported by a national 863 Project, the initiative involves multiple institutions and aims to build a total of 5 MW over several phases, leveraging the region’s abundant sunlight and vast desert areas for sustainable energy production.
