Lausanne, Switzerland – July 9th, 2019 – Flyability is excited to share that LafargeHolcim has chosen the Elios 2 for confined space inspections as part of its forward-thinking "Plants of Tomorrow" program.

The "Plants of Tomorrow" initiative is all about integrating advanced technologies like automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, and digital twins into the production process. This move helps LafargeHolcim boost efficiency by up to 20% in certified operations compared to traditional cement plants. It's a bold step toward Industry 4.0 in the building materials sector.

Automation and robotics play a key role in this transformation. By using drones such as the Elios 2, LafargeHolcim can conduct more frequent inspections while cutting costs and improving safety. However, the journey wasn't easy—working in dusty and corrosive environments required careful planning and innovation.

LafargeHolcim worked closely with Flyability during the development of the Elios 2, acting as a product advisor and beta tester. Their real-world testing in cement plants helped refine features like dustproof lighting and stabilization systems. As Jorge Gamarra, Head of Maintenance Equipment Technology at LafargeHolcim, put it, “If you can fly in a cyclone or a clinker silo, you can fly anywhere.”

This collaboration led to a powerful solution. Now, the Elios 2 is being deployed across multiple regions, including Switzerland, France, Germany, the UK, the US, Canada, India, and Russia. The results are clear: safer, more efficient, and smarter inspections in even the most challenging environments.
