The Lake Villa Fire District has recently acquired two new ambulances, both Type III units built in 2011 by Osage on Ford E-450 chassis. According to Jeff Rudolph, these units have not yet been assigned numbers and are identical in appearance. It appears that Ambulance 243, which was a 2005 model, has been retired. Ambulance 242 was renumbered to 244, and Ambulance 244 became 245. The fate of the older Ambulance 241 remains unclear. The two new units will now be designated as Ambulances 241 and 242.
As reported earlier, the new ambulances are painted red, marking a significant change from the current fleet, which consists of blue and white units purchased when the Lake Villa Rescue Squad was established. This color shift is notable and may signal a new direction for the department’s visual identity.
Here is a photo of one of the new units, which will be assigned to Ambulance 242. It’s the first red ambulance in the district’s history. The unit was delivered in 2011 and features the typical Osage design with a Ford E-450 chassis.
Another image shows what appears to be an older ambulance, possibly the one being replaced. While the exact details aren’t clear, it seems this unit is being reassigned to Station 2 as Ambulance 244.
With the arrival of these new vehicles, the Lake Villa Fire District is upgrading its emergency response capabilities. These ambulances are expected to serve the community well for years to come. The transition also highlights the ongoing efforts to modernize and improve the fire and rescue services in the area.
