This message comes from Drew Smith:
I was driving by MPC Lighting & Communication today and spotted an old military vehicle outside being worked on. I was told it's a MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle built in 2007 or 2008 at a cost of $648,000. It saw service in both Iraq and Afghanistan before being decommissioned recently. From what I understand, the Department of Defense has too many of these vehicles, and keeping them in storage is too expensive. As a result, the first 12 were given to local law enforcement SWAT teams, with NIPAS being the only Illinois recipient so far. The vehicle is heavily armored, all weapons have been removed, but it still retains many useful features. The chassis runs on 12VDC instead of the older 24VDC system used by the military. It also has a large front winch and a rear ramp with stairs. I was told that NIPAS plans to paint and label it to match their fleet. Plus, the federal government did a full maintenance check and even installed new tires before handing it over.

Also, Rutland-Dundee had a new engine on site for some upcoming installations.
