Recently, the world's first industrial-scale double reverse flotation plant for collophane was officially commissioned at Hubei Yihua Group. This marks a significant breakthrough in the comprehensive utilization of phosphate resources, following the company's continued development of heavy medium mineral processing technology to address long-standing global challenges in the industry.
The facility, which cost 4.5 million yuan to build, began construction in October 2005 and was completed and put into operation by the end of March 2006. It is now running smoothly, meeting all economic and technical standards. The magnesium content in the concentrate is below 0.6%, with a recovery rate exceeding 90%. The P₂O₅ grade of the ore is over 32%, and the ratio of sesquioxide to phosphorus is less than 10%. The project received financial and technical support from national research institutes such as Lianyungang Design Institute and Qingdao Chemical Design Institute, as well as provincial and municipal science and technology departments. As a result, the country’s largest beneficiation laboratory was established. Small-scale trials and pilot tests were conducted, laying a solid foundation for future industrial applications.
Currently, the cost of processing through this method is over 200 yuan per ton, but it enables the upgrading of 20% grade phosphate rock to over 32%. This not only helps protect Yichang’s phosphate resources but also provides a technologically feasible, scientific, and economical process for the sustainable development of the phosphor chemical industry in Hubei Province and across the country. It creates a virtuous cycle of resource protection and efficient utilization.
The successful commissioning of this plant eliminates the traditional mining practice of "producing wealth and abandoning poverty" during phosphate rock extraction. It also offers critical technical support in overcoming the global challenge of beneficiating Yichang collophane ore. During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, Yihua Group plans to fully utilize this proprietary technology to establish a large-scale mineral fertilizer complex, including a 3 million-ton-per-year high-concentration phosphorus compound fertilizer plant and a 1.5 million-ton-per-year phosphate ore beneficiation plant in Yichang. Yihua has now become China's largest phosphorus chemical industry base.
