After six years of construction, the facility successfully entered trial operation and passed national GMP certification. As a result, the company has become Asia’s largest production base for recombinant human insulin and one of the top three globally. According to Li Yikui, Chairman of Tonghua Dongbao, recombinant human insulin is a high-value product that positions China to compete at the global high-end level. He highlights four core strengths: advanced technology with 20 years of patent protection, large-scale production with cost advantages, strong international market presence, and established international standards with a professional marketing team. Over the past decade, the company has launched several recombinant protein drugs, including interleukins, and currently has six such products in clinical trials, including recombinant human growth hormone and interferon. Additionally, five new biopharmaceuticals, such as PEGylated therapeutic agents, are in development. Li Yikui expressed the company’s ambition to reach world-class levels in protein drug production and urged the government to provide stronger support for high-tech pharmaceutical companies through export policies and medical insurance programs, helping to foster more leading domestic enterprises in the industry.
