Half of county-level public hospitals in Sichuan were canceled for trials

This year, at least half of Sichuan's counties (prefectures) have "piloted" public hospitals to cancel "drugs for medicine." This is what the reporter learned from the provincial health work conference.

Shen Wei, head of the Sichuan Provincial Health Department, said that in order to advance the reform of public hospitals, Sichuan Province will further improve the new rural cooperative medical system and basic medicine system this year, and comprehensively promote the "pilot" elimination of "pilot stations" at county-level medical institutions, and establish a sound Public hospital compensation mechanism.

The reporter learned from visits by some districts and counties in Suining city that the cancellation of the “remedy with medicines” and the implementation of the basic medicine system have been welcomed by the people. Wu Haihai, a villager of Shimen Village, Pengnan Township, Pengxi County, was recently hospitalized for treatment of kidney disease at the county hospital and reimbursed more than 10,000 yuan, accounting for more than 70% of the total cost. He said: "Now the medicine is cheap, the reimbursement rate has increased, and you don't have to worry about getting sick again."

It is understood that at the end of 2011, Sichuan Province took the lead in realizing the implementation of the “full coverage” of the basic medicine system at the grass-roots medical and health institutions, and introduced supervision and management measures for the purchase and use of essential medicines at the grass-roots medical and health institutions.

According to another understanding, Sichuan Province will also promote basic drug systems for non-government grass-roots medical institutions by consolidating government-run grass-roots hospitals this year.
