The Western Springs Fire Department has recently updated their page with a new collection of historical photos. As part of MABAS Division 10, the department has a long and storied history with a variety of fire apparatus from brands like Ward LaFrance, FWD, Seagrave, E-ONE, American LaFrance, and Pierce. Initially, their vehicles were painted in a traditional white color, but in 1977, they began transitioning to a white-over-red scheme with the introduction of their first American LaFrance Ladder Chief Quint. This change required three units to be repainted: the 1977 E-ONE, the 1975 Seagrave, and the 1982 Pierce. These updates marked an important shift in the department’s visual identity.
These vintage photos offer a glimpse into the evolution of the department over the decades. From early models like the 1947 Cadillac Miller Meteor ambulance to the iconic 1952 Ward LaFrance Fireball, each piece of equipment tells a story of dedication and service. The 1977 American LaFrance Ladder Chief Quint remains one of the most recognizable units in the department's fleet, symbolizing both progress and tradition. Whether it's the classic lines of the Fireball or the bold colors of the later models, these images help preserve the legacy of the Western Springs Fire Department for future generations.
