Jim Skrabel witnessed a fire this morning in Joliet at 1701 Sierra Highland Court. Here's his firsthand account of the incident:
"A two-story home was engulfed on one side, causing significant damage to the adjacent house. Engine 9, the first arriving unit, made a strong initial attack and managed to knock down the fire before I arrived. Two 1 3/4-inch lines were deployed from Engine 9, and Truck 9 had their jacks ready in case they needed to use the aerial ladder. On scene, we had Engines 9, 8, and 10, along with Truck 9, B/C 2, and ambulances 8, 9, and 10."
The fire was quickly brought under control, but the heat from the flames caused noticeable damage to the neighboring property. Several photos taken by Jim Skrabel capture the aftermath, showing firefighters using hand lines to tackle the remaining embers near the roofline, as well as the extent of the damage to the siding of the nearby house. One image highlights how prepared the crew was, with Truck 9 positioned to respond if the fire spread further. Another photo clearly shows the impact of the intense heat on the neighbor’s home, emphasizing the importance of swift response and effective firefighting techniques.
