Mineral leaching reaction is a solution containing a metal to be extracted. Therefore, the resulting solution usually contains other elements inevitably.
These elements, which are not in the process, may have an adverse effect on subsequent processes, or their presence may cause the final product to contain excessive impurities.
Therefore, after the liquid-solid separation to obtain the original leachate, it is generally necessary to further purify the solution to reduce the harmful element lanthanum below the allowable limit. Otherwise, the extracted metal is selectively separated from the solution before the impurities are removed, and the solution purification can be realized by various processes. According to the main features of the process, it can be divided into two categories.
(1) Solid phase separation method. Some components of the solution are separated from other components after conversion to a solid phase, which may also be referred to as selective precipitation. It is usually necessary to add a reagent to achieve such a separation process by adjusting the potential, pH and temperature of the monolith. Sometimes, selective precipitation can also be achieved by simply changing the temperature of the system.
(2) Liquid phase separation method. Separation is achieved by the aid of certain media by allowing different components of the solution to enter the two liquid phases. Solvent extraction and ion exchange are typical examples of this separation process.
