Mitsubishi stopped importing car business

Recently, in an interview with the media, Mitsubishi Motors President Yoshitaka Shimbun revealed that Mitsubishi will no longer develop its imported vehicle business in China and will focus on Guangzhou Mitsubishi in the future.

The reason why the business of importing cars was stopped was mainly to focus on Mitsubishi’s business in China. Mashiko said: “Mitsubishi is no longer developing more imported cars in China.” He hopes that the production and sales of Guangzhou Mitsubishi Motor can reach 130,000 cars as soon as possible. . And "I hope to reach 200,000 to 300,000 vehicles in five years."

Mitsubishi's history in China is not short, but it can be described as twists and turns. As one of the earliest to enter Chinese and foreign brands, Mashiko said frankly that Mitsubishi has always wanted a 50:50 partner, but it wasn’t until September 2012 that it welcomed its first 50:50 joint venture in China. Mikoko had waited for a long time and it also caused Mitsubishi's development in China to struggle.

Yoshiko Yoshima suggested that by 2015 Mitsubishi would achieve 300,000 sales in China. However, the actual data is very different. Mitsubishi Motors, which is itself smaller and its product line is too thin, can only hope for GAC Mitsubishi in the Chinese market.

Guangzhou Automobile Mitsubishi officially started mass production in 2013 and currently has two domestic models. According to Yoshiko, "Guangzhou Mitsubishi is still a baby and I hope the baby will grow up quickly."

According to the planning of Mitsubishi, Guangzhou Automobile Mitsubishi still takes the development of SUV as the main direction. Mashiko said that Mitsubishi will continue to expand its SUV products at Guangzhou Automobile Mitsubishi. But at the same time, in the near 2-3 years, they will always pay attention to the needs of the Chinese market to consider whether to import car products.
