Last night, the Deerfield Fire Department responded to a vehicle that had crashed into a pond on the 500 block of Lake-Cook Road. Upon arrival, the first responding police officer managed to climb onto the car's roof, break a window, and help the driver escape. During this process, the officer suffered minor hand cuts while freeing the occupant. At the time, it wasn't clear if there were any other people inside the car, as the driver could not confirm. In response, emergency crews requested assistance from local dive teams. Units from Highland Park, Northbrook, Lake Forest, and Lincolnshire arrived and conducted a thorough check of the submerged vehicle. They confirmed there were no additional occupants inside. Once the area was cleared, divers attached chains to the car so that a tow company could retrieve it from the water. The operation was carefully coordinated to ensure safety for all involved. Tim Olk captured several striking images of the incident. His photos show a late-model Mercedes that had veered off the road and become mostly submerged in the pond. One image highlights a Deerfield Police sergeant who sustained injuries while breaking the car’s window to rescue the driver. Another photo shows Deerfield Engine 20 at the scene, with emergency lights flashing as the situation unfolded. Additional images depict the divers preparing the car for removal, with one standing by to assist the tow operator. A tow truck is seen pulling the vehicle from the water, and finally, the car is lifted out and loaded onto a rollback. Tim has compiled a full gallery of these powerful images, offering a detailed visual account of the event. You can view more photos here.
