The Grayslake Fire Protection District serves an area of 25 square miles in the heart of Lake County, Illinois. Currently, they operate out of two fire stations and are set to break ground on their third station in the spring of 2011. The new facility will be located on Peterson Road, just east of Route 60, and is expected to enhance emergency response capabilities in the growing community. The department employs a mix of full-time, part-time, and contract personnel to meet the needs of the district. While most of their apparatus is supplied by Pierce, the latest engine is a 2009 Seagrave Maurauder II top-mount pumper, which has gained attention for its performance and design. This unit is often highlighted as a key asset in their fleet and has been featured in several local and regional publications. Grayslake’s ambulance fleet includes a combination of Road Rescue and Medtec units, providing flexible and reliable emergency medical services. Additionally, the department operates a tanker on an R-Model Mack chassis, which was notably used during a fire in Waukegan and has since become a recognizable piece of their equipment. Alongside their firefighting and ambulance units, the Grayslake FPD also maintains a brush truck for wildfire suppression and other off-road emergencies. Their fire station infrastructure includes Station 2, located at 1200 Brae Loch Road, near the College of Lake County campus. This station is a central hub for operations and has been captured in photos that highlight its location and significance to the community. Whether responding to structure fires, medical emergencies, or wildfires, the Grayslake Fire Protection District continues to adapt and grow, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in one of Lake County's most dynamic areas.
