The Glencoe Fire Department (Public Safety Department) recently welcomed a new unit for Squad 30. This modern replacement for the 1993 Pierce Lance features a 20-inch raised roof and a smaller, more compact design compared to its predecessor. The new Squad 30 is equipped with a Pierce Saber cab and a 10-inch raised roof, making it similar in size to Engine 30, a 1996 Pierce Saber.
One of the key differences is that the new unit no longer includes a cascade system and has reduced compartment space. However, it still comes with essential rescue equipment, including deep compartments designed for extrication tools. The front bumper houses two pre-piped extrication tools, while the rear offers a well-organized layout with tool boards, air bags, spare air bottles, a 1,500 GPM pump, 500 gallons of water, electric cord reels, cribbing, and a portable generator for hydraulic tools.
The vehicle also carries various extinguishers and other necessary firefighting gear. Once the radios are installed, the unit will be officially put into service. It’s clear that this new Squad 30 is built for efficiency and practicality, reflecting the department's commitment to modernization and safety.
