Steve Redick was on the scene early Thursday morning and shared his first-hand account of the incident:
One of the perks of my odd work schedule is being out and about during off-peak hours. On my way in last night, I stopped by this working still — a 2-1/2 story frame that was vacant and fully involved when the CFD arrived. There was an exposure concern with the adjacent building, and they were already setting up the Snorkel. I got there pretty quick, but the crews had already made a good dent in the fire. Squad 5 was positioned in the vacant lot nearby, though from what I saw, they weren’t using it as a master stream. They had just finished working the roof, but it was great to see Truck 51’s new Crimson aerial in action. I noticed Truck 18 had a lettered spare unit, but it was a Pierce in excellent condition — kind of unexpected. I only had a few minutes, so I snapped some shots and left.
