Many of our readers knew Glenn Bennett Jr., who grew up in the area. Others may have recognized him from his long career driving and delivering trucks for Seagrave. He was a familiar face to many, both in the community and across the country.

In April 2016, we published an article about an accident that Glenn was involved in. He spent some time in the hospital on the East Coast before being transferred to a rehabilitation center in Wisconsin, where he lived. Unfortunately, Glenn passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at the age of 67. His passing leaves a deep void in the lives of everyone who knew him.

Glenn Bennett Jr. – August 25, 1951 – November 4, 2018

Glenn Bennett Jr. of Three Lakes, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home on November 4, 2018, surrounded by family. He was born on August 25, 1951, in Evanston, Illinois. For 37 years, Glenn served as a firefighter with the Northfield Fire Department in Illinois and later with the Three Lakes Fire Department. He also worked as an employee of FDW Seagrave, delivering fire trucks all over the United States. During the 9/11 tragedy, he volunteered his time to support the recovery efforts, showing his unwavering dedication and compassion.

Outside of work, Glenn loved spending time outdoors, working in his yard, going fishing with family, and enjoying the warmth of Florida. He had a great sense of humor and brought joy to those around him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Bennett Sr. and Elizabeth Bennett. He is survived by his wife, Anita; daughters Lauren Madl (Paul), Barbara Bennett, and Ashley Edwards (Bryan); two grandchildren; three brothers; and two sisters. Anita would like to express her heartfelt thanks to everyone for their love, support, and prayers during this difficult time.

A visitation will be held at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River, Wisconsin, on November 10, 2018, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Here’s a message from John Tobin, a close friend of Glenn, originally posted on Facebook:

John Tobin and Glenn Bennett, Jr

For every picture there is usually a story, and this one is no exception. One summer, I got a call from my old friend and Seagrave delivery driver. He said, “John, can you come and help me? I’m stuck in the maintenance pull-off on the Dan Ryan in downtown Chicago, and I’m broke down.” I replied, “Seagraves never break down,” and he laughed. The truck had developed an air leak, and he knew exactly who to call.

So I jumped in the Suburban, picked up the parts we needed, and headed out. About 90 minutes later, I arrived and—bingo—we were lucky. I had the right part. Glenn, with his big smile and bubbly personality, was back on the road, heading to New Jersey. Glenn was always the biggest ambassador for Seagrave, and his contributions should never be forgotten.
Please take a moment to think of Glenn, or drop him a line, wishing him well as he continues to face the challenges life throws at him. My thoughts are with him today.

Glenn’s legacy lives on through the people he touched, the communities he served, and the stories shared by those who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
