Smoked Turkey Legs Recipe with PGS A Series Grills
We’ve adapted a popular recipe from TasteOfHome.com to give it a little extra kick and make it even more flavorful. The result? Perfectly smoked turkey legs that are tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. Here’s how to make it:
Ingredients
- ½ cup melted butter
- 2 tsp sea salt
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp seasoned salt
- 1¼ tsp paprika
- 1½ tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp crushed pepper
- ½ tsp dried basil
- ½ tsp Cayenne pepper
- 2 turkey legs (1½ lbs each)
- 3 cups soaked applewood chips
Notes on seasoning & smoking: Our version is about twice as spicy as the original. We recommend using crushed peppercorns for a deeper flavor. If you prefer a milder taste, adjust the spices accordingly. Applewood is ideal for a sweet, fruity smoke, but feel free to experiment with other types like cherry, maple, or pecan for different flavors.
Instructions
- Mix the first nine ingredients in a bowl and brush the turkey legs with the mixture. Let sit for 4 minutes.
- Place soaked wood chips in a foil packet and put it over direct heat. Place the turkey legs on the grill rack and cook over indirect medium heat for 40–45 minutes, turning every 4–6 minutes. Use a meat thermometer and remove when the internal temperature reaches 175°F.
Don’t forget the cranberry sauce! It’s the perfect complement to your smoked turkey legs.
Cranberry Sauce Recipe
- 1 lb fresh cranberries
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp orange zest
- 3 whole star anise
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan on your PGS Grill Side Burner. Simmer for 10 minutes, then discard the star anise and serve after cooling.
