Recently, a company in London, England, invented a smart food nutrition scale called SITU. The smart scale's target customers are health, obesity, elderly and professional athletes.

The electronic smart scale SITU uses a pure white appearance with a maximum weight of 5 kg. SITU communicates with the iPad via an embedded Bluetooth chip. Users place food on smart scales. The app application on the iPad calculates precise calories, sugar, salt, protein, vitamins, and minerals based on the weight of the food. The iPad app has only one drag and drop interface. Users only need to put the food on the scale, find the corresponding food category in the app list, and drag the food icon onto the image scale in the app to understand the nutritional information of the meal.
Michael Grothaus, inventor of the smart scale SITU, said that SITU only supports the iOS 7 system's iPad for the time being, and plans to follow-up apps that support iPhones, Android phones and other types of tablets. At present, the project is launching crowdfunding activities on Kickstarter. Early supporters can obtain an SITU scale at $83. If funding is successful, SITU is expected to be officially launched in November 2014.
