On Monday afternoon, May 30, 2016, Glenview firefighters responded to a serious residential fire at 526 Woodland Drive. Thick black smoke was reported coming from the structure, prompting an immediate call for assistance. As units arrived on scene, the alarm was upgraded to a Code 4, indicating a working fire. Fire departments from Northfield, Wilmette, Morton Grove, and Skokie also sent units to support the effort.
The fire was quickly contained to a bedroom and part of the attic, but the home's interior suffered extensive smoke damage. Despite the rapid containment, the impact on the property was significant, with heavy soot and water damage throughout the house. Firefighters worked diligently to ensure the area was safe and to prevent further spread of the flames.
Several fire engines were seen responding to the incident, including an E-ONE e-MAX unit and a Pierce Arrow XT model. The crews were seen repacking their hoses and preparing for potential follow-up actions. Local photographer Larry Shapiro captured several images of the scene, showing the emergency vehicles and the aftermath of the fire.
