On Sunday morning, August 14th, at approximately 4:30 a.m., the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District (FPD) responded to a fire at 840 Inverrary Lane. Upon arrival, the first unit was met by the homeowner, who had already evacuated the split-level home and reported visible flames on the lower level. Inside, firefighters encountered severe hoarder conditions, which complicated their efforts. As they made their way downstairs, they discovered a ruptured water line connected to the washing machine, which helped slow the spread of the fire. The incident was escalated to a Code 4, indicating a working fire, prompting mutual aid from departments in Buffalo Grove, Prospect Heights, Lake Zurich, and Wheeling. Chief officers from Deerfield and Countryside also arrived on scene. A Northbrook ambulance was later dispatched to transport the homeowner to the hospital for evaluation. Numerous photos captured the response, including firefighters standing by, venting windows, and working on the scene. Deputy Chief Scott Kneesley and Lieutenant Paul Schebel were seen directing operations. Hose lines were laid out, and crews worked to contain and extinguish the fire. After the fire was under control, crews conducted an overhaul to ensure all embers were out. A Pierce Arrow XT engine was seen with its lines off, and firefighters escorted the homeowner to the waiting ambulance. The scene was also marked by the challenging hoarder conditions that made the firefighting effort more difficult. For more images from the incident, visit shapirophotography.net.
